Attitude Determination of a Spinning and Tumbling Rocket Using Data from Two Orthogonal Magnetometers Book Description :

This technical note reports on the attitude determination of Air Force Rocket No. A31.603 on which an ion emission experiment was performed. Two orthogonal magnetometers, one facing forward along the rocket spin axis and the other facing sideways, provide magnetic field component data. The bias-offset and scaling (signal conversion) factor are not given, but can be determined in a sinusoidal approximation. The algorithm used for generating magnetic pitch angles is discussed and an error analysis is provided. In a local vertical coordinate system, two sets of elevation angles are found for the tumbling rocket, and the set that satisfies an initial condition exactly is the correct one. The deviation of the rocket tumbling plane from the vertical plane ...

How to Photograph the Moon and Planets with Your Digital Camera Book Description :

Since the advent of astronomical CCD imaging it has been possible for amateurs to produce images of a quality that was attainable only by universities and professional observatories just a decade ago. However, astronomical CCD cameras are still very expensive, and technology has now progressed so that digital cameras – the kind you use on holiday – are more than capable of photographing the brighter astronomical objects, notably the Moon and major planets. Tony Buick has worked for two years on the techniques involved, and has written this illustrated step-by-step manual for anyone who has a telescope (of any size) and a digital camera. The color images he has produced – there are over 300 of them in the book – are of breathtaking quality. Hi...

Spin Book Description :

From the author of Axis and Vortex, the first Hugo Award-winning novel in the environmental apocalyptic Spin Trilogy... One night in October when he was ten years old, Tyler Dupree stood in his back yard and watched the stars go out. They all flared into brilliance at once, then disappeared, replaced by a flat, empty black barrier. He and his best friends, Jason and Diane Lawton, had seen what became known as the Big Blackout. It would shape their lives. The effect is worldwide. The sun is now a featureless disk--a heat source, rather than an astronomical object. The moon is gone, but tides remain. Not only have the world's artificial satellites fallen out of orbit, their recovered remains are pitted and aged, as though they'd been in space far longe...
